Vanessa Bell Armstrong is one of the most popular American gospel singers. She was born on October 2,1953 in Detroit, Michigan. She began her solo career in 1983 with the album Peace Be Still. The title track is considered one of her signature songs. Her second album Chosen was a hit and it charted as the number one on the US Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.

 

She performed on the first Annual Soul Train Awards and won Best Gospel Album Solo in the Soul Train Music Award in 1988 with her album Following Jesus. Armstrong has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards. She also got a lifetime achievement award at Gospel Superfest in 2004.
